Beat Plastic Pollution

It’s World Environment Day on 5th June 2018 and this year’s theme is Beat Plastic Pollution. A huge global game of tag has been arranged, to highlight the level of destruction plastic is causing to our planet. By sharing picture of reusables, it’s hoping we can spread lots of ideas on how we can do our bit to ditch single use plastic. The lovely Katie at Mummys Diary tagged me in, so let’s play!

The Rules

All games have rules. These ones are very simple…

  1. Take a photo of between 1-3 reusable items that you personally have switched to, in order to help tackle plastic pollution.
  2. Caption your photo with a short message to raise awareness.
  3. Also include your top tip for beating plastic pollution.
  4. Share your photo and caption, along with your top tip, tagging at least three other people.
  5. Please also link back to me in your blog post and on social media:)

That’s it, just 5 easy steps!

Oh, and don’t forget to use the hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution and #WorldEnvironmentDay in your posts too!

If you have been following my instagram, you will know that earlier in the year I spoke about how I wanted to ditch single use plastic. The items above I have been using for a good six months and I am converted! Pictured are;

  1. Silicone Straws – I didn’t want to go for metal and paper don’t hold up that well. These are silicone ones are amazing and nice and wide so good for smoothies and frozen drinks too.
  2. Loose Leaf Teapot – I was shocked to discover tea bags contained plastic. Some brands how now said they are going to remove this, but I had already brought this teapot. It easily does two decent size cups and loose leaf tea tastes so much nicer than tea bags!
  3. Bees Wrap – I got this as an alternative to cling film. It works pretty well and the wraps come in a variety of sizes. You can wash them when done and let them air dry and they mold to various shapes.

My Top Tip

If you have a local produce market near you, go there for your fruit and veg! I am lucky that in Leicester, we have the biggest outdoor covered market in Europe and I get all my fruit and veg there now, I take a trip in once a week. Not only is it much cheaper than supermarkets, if you are taking your own bags, you save on all the packaging. Most berries will still come in plastic boxs, but if you ask them they will put it in a paper bag and you just have to be careful not to crush them carrying them home.

Tag You’re It!
